Raccoon Mountain Pumped storage TVA facility is located east of Chattanooga in Tennessee. What makes this facility unique is that a storage lake was created approximately 1000 feet above the generating station it supplies. When power needs to be generated the water is released down a penstock to the turbines below. In the evening when power generation is not required the water is pumped back up to the lake to be held in reserve.
