The Virgin Falls Nat. Area is a very rugged area populated with a number of waterfalls which I love to photograph. The natural area is near Sparta TN. This photo shoot has been the most difficult challenge for me. The trail starts off heading down hill at an easy slope but as you get further into the hike the level of difficulty goes up from there. My advice on this area is start at a reasonable time in the morning so that you have time to traverse the entire trail. The trail is only a total of 8.4 miles round trip. That is 4 miles in and the same out. Don't let the mileage fool you as this is a 6 to 8 hour jaunt. I only made it in 1.6 miles or a total round trip of approximately 5 hours. I did not make it even half way to Laurel Falls or Virgin Falls. If I do this trip again I will not take all my camera gear to lighten the load.
